What is Skyblock? #
Skyblock is a building game in Minecraft that challenges players to build and expand a small, floating island, starting with almost nothing and growing your riches. There is no land and no mining or exploring. You have what you create. You can form teams to build islands. Islands earn points and can rise up the rankings.
What is Addstar Skyblock? #
Addstar uses a modified version of the BSkyBlock plugin. This is a single-mode Skyblock game using vanilla minecraft mechanics. Players start on a small island with a few basic supplies, including lava, water, a tree, grass, and sand. Some blocks can be created or crafted naturally. Some are awarded after passing Skyblock Challenges.
How is Skyblock different than Survival? #
In many ways, Skyblock acts like a Survival world. Time passes normally, mobs spawn in the dark (and kill you if you’re careless), long falls hurt, and you can build with only the items you can gather. However in other ways, Skyblock changes the rules.
- You can use Skyblock Challenges to get some items
- You can change the biome on your island
- Guardians can spawn without an Ocean Monument and Wither Skeletons can spawn without a Nether Fortress
- You will have an Overworld, Nether and End Island.
- You can unlock custom cobblestone and basalt generators.
- You can create greenhouses to mimic various biome mechanics.

Island permissions can be set up through the command /is settings. These permissions are based on the ranks that you have set for players on your island. Island ranks include:
- Visitor – For those players who are just looking around your island.
- Coop – For players who have their own islands, but also have the ability to access things on your island, lower level of permissions than Trusted.
- Trusted – For players who have their own islands, but also have the ability to access things on your island, higher level of permissions than Coop.
- Member – Players who share an island.
- Sub-Owner – Members can be promoted to Sub-Owner rank with /is team promote.
- Owner – Automatically set to the island creator, can be changed with /is team setowner.
Skyblock Challenges #
Challenges are how you advance in Skyblock. Some items are impossible to obtain without passing challenges, and passing challenges in order will help you build your island. Currently there are 131 challenges in 11 ranks, plus 5 additional “free” challenges that can be completed and repeated any time. Many challenges are repeatable, however the rewards may be different on repeated turn-ins.
There are four main types of challenges:
- Inventory Challenges: Check for items in the players inventory, usually the item(s) will be removed.
- Island Challenges: Checks for placed blocks or entities in a given radius around the player, be sure that the radius doesn’t go past the islands border.
- Other Challenges: Checks island levels or the players money balance.
- Statistic Challenges: Checks for specific player statistics (see the Statistics button in your Game Menu).
Challenges can be accessed and completed through the challenge GUI /is challenges, or through the command /is challenges complete (challenge name).
Skyblock Levels #
Islands earn points for each block that is placed within the island boundaries. Items in chests or inventories do not give points. The basic block is Cobblestone, which is worth 1 point. Other types of blocks may be worth more. 100 points are needed to make one island level. You can see your island ranking by using the /is level command and you can view the value of each block with /is value.
Skyblock Biomes #
Your island will start off set to Plains biome. Available biomes can be accessed and chosen through the biome GUI /is biomes. New biomes will be unlocked as you level up your island using the /is level command. Other biomes have to be purchased at the cost of certain items. It costs in game Skyblock currency and sometimes items to change biome.

The cobblestone generator type can be chosen through the generator GUI /is generator. In the GUI you can see which generators you have unlocked and what the requirements are to unlock new generator types, as well as an overview of what blocks spawn with each generator.
There are two types of generators, Cobblestone Generators, and Basalt Generators. The custom Basalt Generators only work within Nether Biomes.

Greenhouses #
Greenhouses enable players to build their own compact biomes complete with weather, mob spawning, unique plant growth, and even block conversions! Available greenhouses can be accessed and chosen through the greenhouse GUI /is greenhouses.
Greenhouses are made out of glass and must contain the blocks found in the Biome Recipe to be valid. Once built, the greenhouse can be used to grow plants with bonemeal, and it may spawn biome-specific mobs. If you include a hopper with water in it, snow will form inside cold biome greenhouse when it rains. If you put bonemeal in the hopper, biome-specific plants will grow. Some blocks can also be converted to other block types over time, often if they are placed next to a specific block.
To be a functional greenhouse the walls and ceiling must be made out of glass blocks (any colour will work, as well as glowstone blocks). The greenhouse can have a maximum of 4 doors or trapdoors (note – trapdoors can only be placed in the ceiling), and replacing one of the glass blocks with a hopper is necessary for automated plant growth and snow.

Market #
Skyblock has a Market World for players to set up their own player shops at /market. Buy items from other player’s shops, or sell your own items by purchasing a plot and setting up QuickShops using chests. Plots cost $5,000 to claim and each QuickShop chest costs $50 to create or change.
